What is Aesthetic Botox®?

Aesthetic Botox is a medical injectable that softens lines, smooths skin, and helps restore facial balance, without surgery or downtime. By temporarily relaxing specific facial muscles using botulinum toxin, Botox reduces the appearance of fine lines and prevents deeper wrinkles from forming over time.

At Therapeutic Aesthetics, we use Botox (and its counterpart Dysport) as part of our science-driven approach to skin health, anti-aging, and regenerative medicine..

What Can Botox & Dysport Be Used For?

While most people know Botox for its ability to smooth wrinkles, its benefits go far beyond aesthetics. At Therapeutic Aesthetics, we use neuromodulators like Botox and Dysport to treat a wide range of concerns, including:

  • TMJ pain and jaw tension from clenching or grinding
  • Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) in areas like the underarms and scalp
  • Hair thinning, by improving blood flow to the follicles

Emerging research also points to a link between Botox and mental wellness. By reducing facial tension (especially in areas associated with negative emotions), Botox may help support a more relaxed mood and improve emotional resilience.

The Science of Botox

At Therapeutic Aesthetics, we pride ourselves as being the top clinic in the Greater Toronto Area that uses science-backed and evidence-based protocols. We’re not just a ‘medical spa’. We’re anti-aging and regenerative medicine experts that use precision medicine in all we do (including in our Botox & Dysport protocols).

How Botulinum Toxin Works

Botulinum toxin gently interrupts the nerve signals that tell your muscles to contract. By softening those repetitive movements (frowning, squinting, etc.) it helps reduce the lines they leave behind.

You get smoother skin, fewer wrinkles, and a more rested appearance that still looks like you. With regular treatments, your facial muscles gradually adapt, helping to prevent new lines from forming in the first place.

Botox vs. Dysport: Understanding the Difference

While both Botox and Dysport use botulinum toxin to relax muscles, they have slight differences:

Dysport spreads more easily, making it effective for larger areas such as the forehead.

Botox is highly precise, making it ideal for targeted wrinkle reduction and smaller treatment areas.

Both options deliver natural-looking results, and our experts can recommend the best choice based on your unique aesthetic goals and facial anatomy.

Immediately After: You may experience mild redness, swelling, or a slight pressure sensation in the treated areas. These effects usually fade within a few hours.

Downtime: There’s no required downtime. Most people return to work or regular activities right away, though we recommend avoiding heavy activity for the rest of the day.

Results, Aftercare & Longevity

Masseter Botox For Jawline Slimming & Tension Relief

Masseter Botox targets the strong jaw muscles that can contribute to clenching, teeth grinding, and TMJ-related discomfort. By relaxing these overactive muscles, it not only eases jaw tension, but it also softens the appearance of a wide or square lower face.

The result is a more tapered, contoured jawline with the added benefit of long-lasting relief from muscle tightness. It’s a subtle, non-surgical way to enhance facial balance while addressing a common source of pain and tension.

Botox & Mental Health

A Calmer Mind Starts at the Surface

Botox isn’t just for lines and wrinkles, it can also influence how you feel. By softening tension in areas like the forehead and brow, Botox helps interrupt the physical patterns linked to stress, anxiety, and low mood.

Here’s how it may support emotional well-being:

  • Reduces stress signals by relaxing muscles tied to frowning and clenching

  • Disrupts negative facial feedback loops, easing subconscious tension

  • Creates a more relaxed, approachable appearance, which can lift your confidence and how others respond to you

Peer-reviewed research supports the link between facial muscle relaxation and mental well-being:

  • A 2021 study found that Botox in the glabellar region lowered amygdala activity, which is linked to stress processing. (Read Study)
  • Botox may help reduce subconscious facial expressions tied to stress and negative emotions. (Read Review)
  • A 2022 meta-analysis found Botox may have a mild antidepressant effect. (Read Meta-Analysis)

While it’s not a replacement for mental health care, many of our patients describe feeling lighter, more at ease, and even a bit happier after treatment. It’s one more way that looking good can support feeling good.

Frequently Asked Questions  (FAQs)

Your Questions, Answered

How long does Botox last?
On average, Botox and Dysport last about 3 to 4 months, though the exact timing depends on your metabolism, muscle activity, and the area treated. As the effect gradually wears off, your muscles begin to regain movement. For best results, we typically recommend maintaining a consistent treatment schedule. Some people find that the results last even longer over time, as the muscles become trained to stay more relaxed.
Is Botox safe?
Yes! Botox is both FDA- and Health Canada-approved, with a long-standing safety record. It’s been trusted in both medical and aesthetic settings for decades, treating everything from facial lines to chronic migraines and excessive sweating. When performed by experienced, licensed professionals like our team at TA, Botox is a low-risk, high-reward treatment that prioritizes your comfort and wellbeing.
Will my face look frozen?
Not at all. Our approach is all about balance. Botox works by calming overactive muscles, not erasing all movement. You’ll still be able to smile, frown, and express yourself naturally, just with fewer creases. When done properly, you’ll look more relaxed and refreshed, not expressionless.
Can Botox prevent wrinkles?
Many people choose Botox preventively, especially in their 20s or 30s. By relaxing the muscles that cause repetitive movements (like squinting or frowning), Botox can help slow the development of deeper, more permanent lines. Think of it as a proactive step in your long-term skin health routine.
Can Botox help with hair loss?
It can. When injected into the scalp, Botox may support hair growth by increasing blood flow and nutrient delivery to the hair follicles. We often combine it with treatments like PRP to enhance overall hair restoration results. Most of our patients report improvements in hair texture, density, and shedding as part of a comprehensive plan.
Does Masseter Botox affect chewing?
No, it doesn’t interfere with your ability to eat or speak. Masseter Botox gently relaxes the jaw muscles that contribute to clenching and grinding, without compromising their function. This treatment can reduce jaw tension, relieve TMJ discomfort, and help shape a softer, more tapered lower face.
Can Botox help with excessive sweating?
Absolutely. Botox is a proven solution for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). By interrupting the nerve signals that trigger sweat production, it helps reduce unwanted perspiration in areas like the underarms, hands, feet, and scalp. The effects can last several months, making daily life more comfortable and confidence-boosting.
How is Botox related to mental health?
There’s growing evidence that Botox can play a small, but meaningful role in emotional wellbeing. By reducing facial tension (especially in areas tied to stress or sadness) Botox may help interrupt negative emotional feedback. On top of that, many people feel more confident and at ease when they look in the mirror and see a calmer, more refreshed version of themselves. While it’s not a substitute for therapy, Botox can be one tool among many to support how you feel on the inside and out.
