VENUS VERSA IPL WITH SMARTPULSE™

Have you started noticing small brown spots on your skin, and wondering where they are and where they came from? This discolouration is known as hyperpigmentation and is usually caused by excess sun exposure built up over years. These brown spots are one of the earliest and most common signs of premature ageing.

Fortunately, there’s a very simple solution to help restore your complexion, even out your skin tone and return your skin to its youthfulness.

Our expert skin specialists at Therapeutic Aesthetics strongly recommend Venus Versa photofacial to our clients photofacial because it works. Venus Versa can treat a variety of skin issues including discolouration, fade sunspots, redness, rosacea, spider veins and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

How does the Venus Versa work for photofacial?

The Venus Versa photofacial treatment is one of the most advanced and cutting-edge cosmetic treatments in the dermatology world. This multi-application photofacial treatment uses an advanced technology called Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) SmartPulse™ technology to precisely deliver targeted wavelengths of light through several layers of skin. The targeted light only reaches pigmented tissue, without even touching the surrounding healthy tissue. Pigmented tissue (like skin cells that are affected by hyperpigmentation or rosacea) absorbs this highly specific light and generates heat. This heat essentially kills the diseased skin cells while repairing affected tissues.

It’s important to note that the results vary from patient to patient. The number and frequency of sessions that you require will depend on the severity of the skin condition that you have. However, you will most likely need multiple treatments per treatment area for optimal results. Connect with our clinic today for an initial consultation – our skin specialists can create a unique, customized Venus Versa photofacial treatment plan for you.

THE PHOTOFACIAL: HOW IT WORKS AND THE TECHNOLOGY BEHIND IT

A favourite among our clients across the Greater Toronto Area for both men and women, our photofacial dramatically reduces the signs of aging without the need for surgery. It can treat hyperpigmentation, discolouration, sunspots, redness, rosacea, spider veins, and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

At Therapeutic Aesthetics, we base our procedures on evidence-based science and cutting-edge technology to help deliver real results to our patients.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND INTENSE PULSED LIGHT THERAPY

IPL is a cosmetic technology designed to improve the colour and texture of your skin without the need for surgical intervention. It can precisely and effectively undo some of the visible skin damage caused by sun exposure, also known as photoaging. You may notice the signs of photoaging manifesting as red, brown, or black spots or uneven skin texture on your face, neck, hands, or chest (this is why it is so important to wear sun protection!).

Intense Pulsed Light therapy uses light energy to strategically target certain colours in your skin, known as pigments. Using specific wavelengths, the intense pulses of light can deeply penetrate through the superficial layers of your skin to reach the deeper tissues, which is where skin damage is localized. The light is then readily absorbed by the damaged tissues deep beneath the skin. This causes a heating effect, in which the damaged tissues deep beneath your skin are heated. Your body recognizes that the heated cells are damaged and eliminates them. The elimination of these damaged tissues by your body fades away, or even removes, the skin concern that you are being treated for.

Heating the deep tissues underneath your skin also tricks your body into initiating the wound response. This stimulates the production of collagen, elastin, and other elements that are critically important for skin repair and regeneration. These elements are particularly important because they support a strong skin foundation (the skin matrix), ensuring that your skin is strong, firm, and bouncy. In fact, the signs of aging and photodamage are more apparent because, with age, your body loses the ability to naturally form collagen. So, IPL therapy is an excellent way to boost and replenish collagen production to ensure that your skin stays youthful.

IPL, through heating the deep tissues of your skin, also stimulates the formation of new blood vessels in the targeted treatment area. The formation of new blood vessels is critical to enhancing and improving blood flow to the damaged tissues. This allows a steady supply of oxygen and essential nutrients that help repair the damaged skin tissues. Not only does this allow the targeted area to heal faster, but the enhanced blood, oxygen, and nutrient flow also boost radiance to your skin, giving you a natural glow.

Today’s IPL devices, especially the one we use at our practice, are so advanced that they can send out more than one wavelength of pulsating light. This means that our IPL therapy can treat a range of skin conditions at the same time, requiring fewer treatments and helping you get the most out of your treatment sessions.

THE RESULTS OF IPL

After your IPL session, you will find that your skin concerns have visibly improved and that, overall, the treated skin looks much younger and newer. You’ll find that the treated skin is more even in skin tone and skin texture. You will also notice an increase in skin firmness and bounciness. This is directly due to the stimulation of collagen and elastin production. Finally, you will also notice a boost of radiance. This is directly due to the formation of new blood vessels in the treatment area. All in all, you will notice a visible reduction in the signs of aging and photodamage to the skin, including a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, smaller pore sizes, and fading of age spots and hyperpigmentation, resulting in smoother, firmer, more even-toned and more radiant skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a candidate for a Venus Versa IPL photofacial?

You may be the ideal candidate for a Venus Versa IPL photofacial if you have an uneven complexion, discoloration such as hyperpigmentation, visible veins, or fine lines. However, photofacials tend to work best on light to medium skin tones.

To determine if you are an ideal candidate, schedule an appointment with one of our skin care professionals.

If you are not an ideal candidate for Venus Versa, don’t stress! Our expert medical team can help you find an alternative cosmetic dermatological treatment to suit your unique needs.

What can I expect during my IPL photofacial?

There is very limited pain associated with this treatment, which is why it is so popular with our clients.

During your Venus Versa photofacial, you can expect to only feel a light snapping sensation on your skin. The Venus Versa technology is super advanced – a built-in cooling feature ensures that your Venus Versa procedure will be very comfortable. However, every skin type is unique, and some individuals may have more sensitive skin than others. The entire treatment lasts about 15-20 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.

What should I expect after having a Venus Versa™ IPL photofacial?

After your Venus Versa treatment, it is normal to feel a sensation similar to a mild sunburn. You can also expect the treatment area to be red for anywhere from a few hours to a day or so.

There is no set downtime or recovery time, so you can get back to your daily life as soon as the session has ended. We encourage patients to immediately return to work, their social lives, and other normal activities following the treatment. What’s more, you can apply your makeup straight after the treatment without any hassle, which is a massive bonus for many.

What should I do after my treatment?

After your Venus Versa treatment, you should care for your skin by moisturizing the treatment area and avoiding direct sun exposure, which could be damaging to the skin. Our skin specialists strongly recommended that patients use a high-SPF, broad spectrum sunscreen daily, and also maintaining adequate hydration with eight glasses of water a day. This will help your skin look its very best.
