What is Hair Restoration?

What is Hair Restoration and what does it do?

Hair restoration refers to a range of treatment options to address hair thinning and hair loss. Treatment options include surgical and non-surgical procedures that promote hair regrowth.

What are the signs that a person needs hair restoration treatments

Hair loss and hair thinning affects both men and women, and can be triggered by a variety of reasons. For example, hormonal changes, stress, male pattern balding, alopecia, thyroid conditions, and medical treatments such as chemotherapy, can all contribute to loss of hair density. Here are some signs that an individual may benefit from hair restoration treatments:

  • Decreasing hair density or hair thickness
  • Thinning of hair in the crown
  • Receding or more sparse hairline
  • Greater scalp visibility
  • Widening part
  • More shedding while washing or styling

Depending on your age, genetic history, lifestyle, and phase of life (e.g., pregnancy, postpartum, recovery from illness, etc.), our aesthetic practitioners will design a hair restoration treatment program that works for your unique goals.

Is hair restoration a surgical procedure?

There is a widespread range of hair restoration treatments, including surgical and non-surgical options. Surgical procedures include hair transplants using Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) or Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) techniques. Hair transplants usually involve minor scabbing of the scalp, which typically heals in about 10 days. Other downtime considerations include minimizing strenuous physical activity during the initial recovery period, protecting the scalp as it heals, and for some patients, pain management. Final results are generally observed around 12 to 18 months post-surgery. If the procedure takes well, results are permanent.

Common Surgical Techniques Include:

Common surgical techniques include hair transplants using FUT and hair transplants using FUE.

When hair transplants are completed using FUT, a small strip of skin is surgically removed from an area of the scalp that is called the “donor area.” The donor area is  a portion of the scalp that is less likely to be predisposed to balding (e.g., the back or the sides), and is rich in hair follicles. These skin grafts are then transplanted into thinning or balding areas of the scalp to integrate the donor hair follicles and promote new hair growth.

For hair transplants that are completed using FUE, individual hair follicles are extracted from the donor area without surgically removing a strip of skin. The extracted hair follicles are then directly transplanted into the treatment area to promote new hair growth. The FUE technique boasts results that are more natural looking than the FUT technique, and patients typically experience less scarring or scabbing.

How to determine which procedure works for you:

Before deciding on whether to undergo a surgical or non-surgical hair restoration procedure, it’s important to consult your medical practitioner to determine the source of your hair loss and hair thinning. Thinning and hair loss caused by certain underlying medical conditions may pose a higher rate of recurrence even after you undergo a treatment. Make sure you receive medical advice from your doctor if you have an underlying health condition, or are noticing hair loss as a side effect to another treatment (e.g., chemotherapy). Other factors to consider include your lifestyle, budget, pain management, downtime involved, extent of hair loss or hair thinning, and other medications you may be taking.

For those who prefer less invasive hair restoration treatments with minimal downtime, regardless of your age or health status, non-surgical treatments options may be the right fit for you.

Needless Hair Restoration

Needleless hair restoration treatments are the answer to those who want to reduce hair loss and thinning, but prefer procedures that are non-invasive. Our needleless hair restoration treatment options include Jet Peel and synthetic exosome therapy to revitalize scalp health, increase blood circulation to existing hair follicles, and regenerate hair growth.

These treatment options are anesthesia-free, pain-free, and require minimal to zero downtime. Most treatment sessions are completed within 45 to 60 minutes, and the only side effects you may feel are slight scalp tingling or redness, both of which are temporary.

PRP therapy

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy involves using your own blood plasma to deliver a nutrient-rich injectable into your scalp. Like skin treatments, PRP therapy relies on drawing a sample of blood, and using a centrifuge to extract the platelet-rich plasma from the sample. This plasma is then injected into the scalp, or applied topically via microneedling, to promote regrowth and hair thickness over time.

Exosome therapy

Exosome therapy is a cutting edge treatment for minimizing hair loss. Exosomes are extracellular vesicles that are key in regenerative medical aesthetics, such as hair restoration treatments. Exosomes communicate with other cells and promote hair regrowth within as little as two to three months. Treatment is done by first using a microneedling device on the surface of the scalp, and then topically applying the exosome compound. Once the exosomes are applied to the scalp and penetrate below the surface of the skin, they will stimulate cell regeneration, and natural growth of new hair follicles. This treatment is an excellent way to slow down or reverse the effects of hair thinning, shedding, and hair loss, with optimal results usually observable around six-months after beginning treatment.

Polynucleotide Therapy

Polynucleotide therapy involves injecting extremely powerful nutrient-rich compounds into the scalp. Polynucleotides are naturally-occurring molecules that are made of the building blocks of DNA. These building blocks are key to inducing cellular regeneration, and repair. Often used in skin treatments for their anti-aging benefits, polynucleotides are also used to treat hair regrowth and restoration.

Polynucleotides are administered via injection directly into the scalp. Once injected, the polynucleotide solution boosts the production of repair cells called “fibroblasts,” and naturally increases collagen-production in the scalp. This, in turn, encourages the growth of new hair follicles, improves blood flow in the scalp, and reduces inflammation, all in support of healthier hair.

Sylfirm X

Sylfirm X is a unique treatment that relies on the powerful combination of microneedling and radiofrequency. This procedure is used to stimulate blood circulation in the scalp, revitalize hair follicles, and support hair regrowth for those experiencing hair thinning or hair loss.

The treatment uses a microneedling device that is used to create controlled micro-injuries in the surface layer of the scalp. Like microneedling treatments on the skin, this triggers your body’s natural healing response, and encourages the regeneration of hair follicles, and improves scalp health. Sylfirm X is the perfect restorative treatment for those looking to give their hair and scalp a major boost through a minimally-invasive procedure.

Jet Peel

Jet Peel technology is a non-invasive, needleless, hair restoration treatment that gradually promotes new hair growth. Jet Peel uses a two-step jet stream to gently prep the scalp for maximum absorption of rejuvenating serums that promote follicular regrowth.

First, the scalp is thoroughly exfoliated by removing dead skin cells. Next, using a pressurized jet stream of air, micro-droplets of nutrient-rich serums are delivered deep into the scalp to promote the rejuvenation of hair follicles. These nutrient-rich serums contain a cocktail of peptides, growth factors, and vitamins, to boost hair density and scalp health over time. The jet stream of air mimics a micro-scalp massage, and increases blood circulation and oxygenation in the scalp.

Jet Peel treatments require zero downtime, and are entirely pain free. Most clients benefit from a series of Jet Peel treatments, with the number of sessions depending on your hair restoration goals.

What hair restoration treatments work best for women?

Hair restoration treatments can offer particularized solutions for women experiencing thinning or hair loss caused by hormonal conditions, postpartum shedding, peri-menopause and post-menopause. We recommend a combination of Sylfirm X, microneedling, needleless hair restoration, Jet Peel, PRP therapy, exosome therapy, and polynucleotide therapy.

What hair restoration treatments work best for men?

Hair restoration treatments can offer targeted solutions for men who may be experiencing hair thinning and hair loss such as receding hairlines, male pattern balding, and thinning crowns. Recommended treatments include a combination of Sylfirm X, microneedling, needleless hair restoration, Jet Peel, PRP therapy, exosome therapy, and polynucleotide therapy.
